What is VET TEC 2.0 ®?
VET TEC 2.0 ® (Veteran Employment through Technology Education Courses) is a program from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to incentivize veterans’ trajectory into technical/cyber employment. Also, transitioning active duty service members within the last 180 days of their ETS/ESA may also utilize VET TEC 2.0 ®.
This program provides:
- Education funding for Short-term, full-time tech training (6–28 weeks)
- Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA)
- Outcome driven results
How does VET TEC 2.0 ® work?
Unlike traditional degree programs, VET TEC pays training providers in segments. 25% of the total when the veteran begins training, 25% when they finish, and 50% when they achieve gainful technical employment, which must be verified within 180 days of the successful completion of training.
Preferred Providers: An institution that elects to take on the Preferred Provider role does not collect the last 50% of total program costs if the student is unable to obtain gainful in-field employment and must also re-pay the VA for the initial 50% received - unless that provider can show a 70% or higher overall job placement rate for the approved programs.
Firstly - you no longer need GI Bill benefits to qualify
The VET TEC Pilot Program required at least 1 day of your GI Bill remaining unspent to be eligible - but this requirement has been eliminated.
VET TEC 2.0 participants must:
- Have a total of at least 36 months of active duty service time.
- Be under the age of 62.
- Have an honorable discharge.
- Also available to Active Duty within the last 180 days of separation from service.

You read that right! The eligibility criteria has changed.
Second - Entitlement usage introduced
For those with full VA Education benefits:
Example: You have full benefits through chapters 30, 35, or 33 and are attending a 20-week training program = Your benefit will be charged for 20 weeks and VET TEC 2.0 ® will fund the full 20 week program.
Those with less benefit than the program Total:
Example: You only have 10 weeks of benefits through chapters 30, 35, or 33 and are attending a 20-week program = Your benefit will be charged for 10 weeks, but VET TEC 2.0 ® will still fund the full 20 week program.
no benefits Currently Entitled in your name:
Example: You do not have any benefits under chapters 30, 35, or 33 and are attending a 20-week program = VET TEC 2.0 ® will still fund the full 20 week program.
Chapter 30: Montgomery GI Bill, Chapter 35: DEA, Chapter 33: Post 9-11 GI Bill
PLUS: VET TEC 2.0 Does NOT Count Against Your Total 48 Months!
The VA explicitly states here that the usual "cap" of 48 months total for VA Education resources does NOT apply to VET TEC 2.0 - meaning you can still utilize this program if you have exhausted your other benefits!

All classes at Training Concepts are Monday - Thursday, unless otherwise noted for holidays or closures.
Can I use VET TEC 2.0 ® to attend virtual/remote classes?
For now, the VA has not authorized Virtual / Remote participation in training programs at Training Concepts through the VET TEC 2.0 ® program. If you would like to utilize VET TEC 2.0 ® for our nationally accredited career programs, you must attend classes in-person at either campus in Columbia or Charleston, South Carolina.
Is Training Concepts a VET TEC 2.0 ® Preferred provider?
Training Concepts is a preferred provider of VET TEC 2.0 ® and was a preferred provider for the VET TEC Pilot Program, as well!
Does VET TEC 2.0 ® cover The cost of all materials for class?
VET TEC covers all your technical training costs, like tuition, books, labs, tutoring, and career services. Certification Exam vouchers are not included within the covered expenses.
However, the VA does reimburse expenses from certification exams, separately from VET TEC 2.0 ®

In the age of AI, Is tech still a viable career choice?
YES!
AI may be able to write code - but coding and tech are not the same. While there are those within tech who specialize into coding, the majority of Information Technology/Cyber roles do not require coding.
In fact, increased reliance upon AI will only pave the way for more tech/cyber jobs in the future - especially in Cloud & Cyber Security!
